ヨルダン、フセイン国王の死を悼む
Jordan remains in qmourning a day after wKing Hussein was laid to rest in the capital, Amman. The government has declared 40 days of mourning, and offices, schools, banks, and shops will remain closed for most of the week. As King Hussein's eldest son, eKing Abdullah, takes control of the country, the United States, Britain, Japan, and several Arab countries pledged more financial aid to Jordan, which suffers from a rsagging economy and high unemployment. VOA Middle East correspondent Scott Bobb has this report.
Bobb: "The streets of Amman were deserted Monday night as most residents stayed home to mourn the late King Hussein, who was buried that afternoon with full tmilitary honors after prayers at the Royal Mosque in Amman. Hundreds of ydignitaries, including several dozen heads of state, paid their respects to the monarch, who died Sunday after a seven-month battle with cancer. His eldest son, Abdullah, became king a few hours later, only two weeks after being named uheir to the throne in a isurprise move by the oailing king that !0sidelined his brother, who had been Crown Prince for 34 years. ボブ：「月曜日の夜、ほとんどの住民が故フセイン国王を悼むため家にこもっていたので、アンマンの街路は人通りがありませんでした。フセイン国王はこの日の午後、アンマンのロイヤル・モスクで祈りを捧げられた後、軍葬の礼を尽くして埋葬されました。がんと７カ月闘った末、日曜日に亡くなった同国王に、数十人の国家元首を含む何百人もの政府高官が敬意を表しました。２週間前に王位継承者に指名されたばかりの長男のアブドラが数時間後に国王となりました。アブドラの指名は、病床にあったフセイン国王によるもので、34年間皇太子を務めた実弟を外す驚くべき動きでした。VOA ニュースのスコット・ボブがアンマンからお伝えしました」。

King Hussein フセイン国王 ☆イブン・タラール・フセイン（1935_99）は前ヨルダン国王（1953_99）。46年の在位期間は、激動が続く中東の首脳としては最長だった。イスラエルと和平を結び、パレスチナ和平にも仲介役としてかかわった国王の死で、中東和平に少なからぬ影響が出るものとみられている。
King Abdullah アブドラ国王 ☆ビン・フセイン・アブドラ（1962_ ）はフセイン国王の長男。1999年２月７日のフセイン国王死去に伴い即位した。
