3D Sweep Panorama
3D transforms Sony’s unique panorama photo vision.

Now, you can capture spectacular wide-screen Cyber-shot images in dramatic 3D! Sony takes advantage of innovative Sweep Panorama technology, which takes a burst of frames at high speed and stitches together many narrow image strips to create a single breathtaking panorama with 3D photography. All you have to do is basically the same as with conventional 2D Sweep Panorama — simply “sweep” the landscape with your Cyber-shot after pressing the shutter button. Then, to enjoy these images, just connect your Cyber-shot to a 3D-compatible HDTV* like Bravia and slip on 3D eyewear for viewing.

* Requires compatibility with side-by-side 3D format.

How the 3D Sweep Panorama system works

Regular 2D-type Sweep Panorama uses the central part of the CMOS sensor with narrow rectangular strips to “scan” a scene. However, 3D Sweep Panorama utilises two off-centre bands in the CMOS sensor. While the camera is swept across a panoramic scene, these two narrow bands in the sensor “scan” the scene from slightly different angles, capturing two slightly different panoramic images. Each image simulates the view seen by either the left or right human eye — allowing a single-lens compact camera to capture two images without using two separate lenses.

When 3D image data is played back, the left eye sees the image for the left eye while the right eye sees the image for the right eye. These two images from two viewpoints are processed inside the human brain, allowing users to experience seeing 3D images. This system of “binocular parallax” is the basis for Sony’s new 3D Sweep Panorama innovation.

How to view Cyber-shot pictures anew in 3D

Enjoy two basic ways to see 3D panoramic images captured with your Cyber-shot. One way is simply using Cyber-shot by connecting to a 3D-compatible HDTV* like Bravia via HDMI™ cable. The other is using PS3™ as a 3D image player, which provides higher image quality with its high-performance CPU. Either way, it’s easy to see breathtaking Cyber-shot pictures in 3D!

Using Cyber-shot
Using PS3®
* With 3D Sweep Panorama function
** Or other side-by-side 3D-compatible HDTV
Note: Viewing 3D images using PS3™ requires installation of an application for 3D viewing (available free of charge). Please download the application from the PlayStation® Network.

Since the camera cannot capture 3D images under the following conditions, the images taken under these conditions do not support 3D viewing:
- When there is a large subject
- Moving subjects
- When the main subject is too close to the camera
- Images with little contrast, such as the sky, a sandy beach, or lawn
