What is VAIO Overseas Service for Japan Tourist Models?
 
VAIO Overseas Service for Japan Tourist Models provides hardware repair of your VAIO notebook PC at no charge in the designated countries* and areas* for a period of 1 year from the date of purchase.
This repair service program is only available to customers who have purchased the VAIO notebook PCs of Japan tourist model.
* Designated countries and areas for VAIO Overseas Service are mentioned in Terms & Conditions of this Service.
 
Terms & Conditions

PLEASE READ THIS DOCUMENT CAREFULLY BECAUSE IT CONTAINS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS, AS WELL AS LIMITATIONS AND EXCLUSIONS THAT APPLY TO YOU.

This document contains the terms and conditions that apply to VAIO Overseas Service for Japan Tourist Models (the "Service"). You agree to be bound by and accept these terms and conditions.
The Service provides repair service at no charge in the designated countries and areas under the terms and conditions mentioned below.

1. Eligible Customers and Products:
The Service is available only for customers purchasing eligible products directly from Sony or a Sony's official distributor in Japan.

2. Period During Which the Service is Effective:
The Service is valid for a period of twelve(12) months from the original date of purchase of the Product from Sony or a Sony's official distributor in Japan.

3. Designated countries and areas Where Service is Provided:
The Service is offered only in the countries and areas stated below.
Asia: Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Korea, Taiwan, India
Western Europe: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom
North America: U.S.A, Canada
Oceania: Australia, New Zealand
Middle East: United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia

4. Free-of-Charge Repair Coverage:
Support and repair under this service apply only to PC hardware unit.The VAIO Overseas Service logo sticker given by Sony’s official distributor must be placed on the computer and contains an actual date of purchase in order to obtain this service. It does not cover software, PC accessories (such as connector cables), and does not include service for instruction manual, label, and other printed materials.

5. Method of repair request:
Please request repair by calling the designated Sony number for applicable countries or areas.

6. Free-of-Charge Repair Conditions:
Repair at no charge is provided for defects in hardware materials or workmanship under standard usage (consistent with the instruction manual, labels, and other printed material included with the Product). Power and telecommunications standards for the model types designated for the Service are for use in limited countries and areas. Please refer to the catalog. When using the Product elsewhere, it is the Customer's responsibility to ensure that the Product is used in compliance with such specifications. When the defect is caused by use in an environment that does not meet the specifications of the Product, You will be charged for the repair.

7. Warning Concerning Damage to Equipment other than the Product:
Power and telecommunications standards for the model types designated for the Service apply to use in limited
countries and areas. Please refer to the catalog. Sony will not compensate for damage caused to any material or persons when the Product is used in an environment that does not meet the specifications
of the Product.

8. Disclaimer:
SONY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR FOR BREACH OF ANY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED SERVICE, BREACH OF CONTRACT,NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY RELATED TO THE PRODUCT OR SERVICE. SUCH DAMAGES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF REVENUE, LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF USE OF THE PRODUCT OR ANY ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT, DOWN TIME AND PURCHASER'S TIME. EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT PROHIBITED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ANY IMPLIED SERVICE OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OF THE PRODUCT OR SERVICE IS DISCLAIMED.

9. For-fee Repair Conditions.
(1) A fee will be charged for the repair of any product that does not qualify for Free-of-Charge
repair as defined above, including but not limited to the following examples:

When VAIO Overseas Service logo sticker is not placed on the computer.
When VAIO Overseas Service logo sticker does not contain a purchase date or when the VAIO Overseas
Service logo sticker is recognized with a false purchase date.
Cosmetic damage
When the original Operation System has been replaced by other language Operation System.
When the damage is due to accident, misuse, abuse, negligence, unauthorized commercial use or
unauthorized modifications of the Product
When the damage is due to improper operation or maintenance of the Product
When the damage is due to connection to improper voltage supply
When the damage is caused by dropping or hitting the Product
When the damage is due to acts of God; caused by fire, earthquakes, floods, lightening, pollution,
power surges
When the damage is due to the attempted repair by any party other than a Sony authorized personal
computer service facility
When malfunction results from the use of the Product in conjunction with accessories, products or
ancillary or peripheral equipment or where it is determined by Sony that there is no fault with the
Product itself
When there is a request to ship the Product outside of the designated countries or areas in which
the repair is requested
When the factory applied serial number has been altered or removed from the Product

(2) Please be aware of the following in connection with repairs for which there is a charge:

For repairs charged, you must pay for parts, labor, and shipping charges.
Details of the fee will be explained in cases where you will be charged.
The fee charged on an equivalent repair may differ from countries and areas, due to currency fluctuations,
differences in parts prices, etc.
If Sony has found the repair to be for-fee after receiving the Product, Sony wilt contact you before
performing the repair. You will be informed of the charge and asked to confirm whether the repair
should be performed. In such circumstances, the period during which the Product is away from
you may be longer than when repairs are performed at no charge.
In certain countries and areas, you may need a credit card accepted by Sony to make payments for
for-fee repair.
If Sony decides that you will be charged for the repair, but the Product is returned to you unrepaired
because you do not wish to have the repair performed, the shipping cost will be charged to you and
a diagnostic fee may be charged.

10. Important Notice about Repair Procedures.

(1) The conditions for accepting a repair request are as follows:

You own the VAIO Overseas Service for Japan Tourists Models applicable product
You are staying in the designated countries or areas for sufficient period to repair the Product.
The contents of your hard drive, including any data you have stored or software you have installed,
are duly backed up by you before the Product is collected by the courier

It is your responsibility to back up the contents of your hard drive, including any data you have stored or software you have installed, as well as to remove recording media (such as floppy discs, CDs) and peripherals from the Product before handing over the Product to the Sony-designated pick-up courier. If such programs, data, recording media and peripherals are within the Product at the time Sony receives the Product, Sony assumes that you have forgone all rights to such items. Sony will not be responsible for any damage to or loss of any peripherals, programs, data or other information stored on any media or any part of any Product serviced hereunder.
IF DURING THE REPAIR OF THE PRODUCT THE CONTENTS OF THE HARD DRIVE ARE ALTERED, DELETED OR IN ANY WAY MODIFIED, SONY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE WHATSOEVER.THE PRODUCT WILL BE RETURNED TO THE CUSTOMER CONFIGURED AS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED (SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF SOFTWARE AND TECHNICAL CONSIDERATlONS.)
   
(3) Be sure to remove all third party hardware, software, features, parts, options, alterations and
attachments not warranted by Sony prior to sending the Product to Sony for repair. Sony is not liable
for any loss or damage to these items.
   
(4) Depending on parts availability and the nature of the problem, Sony reserves the right to select
repair methods under local circumstances of the countries and areas in which the repair is conducted.
   
(5) Sony does not offer depot or on-site repair service under the Service.
   
(6) Sony does not offer data back-up service under the Service.
   
(7) If telecommunication charges occur in contacting Sony (including international call charges and
any other communication charges) to request repair, as well as for any other contact, you shall be
responsible for your costs.


11. Personal Data (Privacy):

Sony collects your personal information (such as your name, address,phone number and passport number), as well as details regarding the Product in connection with providing the Service. The information will be kept confidential at contact centers and repair centers of Sony subsidiaries in the designated countries and areas for a reasonable period. For the purpose of confirming your entitlement and to render you the Service in the designated countries and areas, Sony may share this information among the other authorized departments of our company and any associated companies in the Sony Group. You can always provide us with your latest personal information and/or require us to correct any data which is inaccurate or outdated.

12. Transference of the Service:

The Service is non-transferable.
