Intelligent Auto Mode
Intelligent Scene Recognition Leave everything to Intelligent Auto mode!
In any shooting situation, simply select the Intelligent Auto mode and the camera will automatically do everything necessary to provide optimum results. This incredibly convenient feature combines Intelligent Scene Recognition with Auto mode (including Auto Focus) to deliver clear, beautiful results wherever and whenever you shoot. A flashing icon at the top left of the display tells you at a glance when Intelligent Scene Recognition is active. Intelligent Auto Focus further contributes to effortless capturing of beautiful photos.

Note: Advanced mode (Intelligent Scene Recognition) is selectable from the MENU.

Settings are optimised for each particular scene

Now it’s easier than ever to achieve great results in any kind of shooting environment. The Intelligent Scene Recognition in Intelligent Auto mode automatically determines the optimum settings for the current scene — even in difficult shooting conditions like dark and backlit environments. The camera swiftly activates one of eight available settings (Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Twilight using a tripod, Portrait, Landscape, or Macro) and an icon appears on the screen to clearly indicate which setting is being used.

You can shoot in the Auto or Advanced mode. The Auto mode takes a single shot with optimised automatic settings, while the Advanced mode* takes one or two shots (at different settings) depending on the scene. When Advanced mode takes two shots, a Dual Shot function displays them both on the screen to let you easily choose the better shot. The exception is when shooting portraits in Advanced mode: an anti-blink function* is automatically activated that takes two shots and only records the photo with wider open eyes.

Notes: If a blink is detected in the Auto mode, a warning message is displayed after the shot. The anti-blink function does not activate when utilising flash illumination in the Backlight Portrait or Twilight Portrait setting: if blinking is detected, a warning message is displayed after the shot is taken, as in the Auto mode.

Advanced Advanced mode
Sometimes “optimal” settings are a matter of taste. In the Advanced mode, when the camera identifies a difficult shooting environment such as a backlit or twilight scene, it takes two shots using different settings. A Dual Shot function displays them both on the screen for easy comparison, allowing you to select the preferred shot immediately. This provides greater protection against mistakes. When shooting landscapes and close-ups, only one shot is taken at optimal settings. And portraits are handled by automatically taking two shots and saving only the image with wider open eyes.
