The NEX-5 and NEX-3 are the first Sony interchangeable-lens cameras to offer movie recording – and they do it in style. With a new high-speed, low-noise Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor that's large enough to capture background defocusing effects, and a dedicated new line of ultra-quiet E-mount lenses to help keep AF motor noise off your movie soundtrack.* Both cameras support HD movie recording in the convenient MP4 format, which makes it easy to post video clips on blogs or video-sharing websites. And the powerful NEX-5 goes a step further, offering big, beautiful 1920 x 1080 Full HD image quality with the high capacity of the AVCHD recording format.

Camcorder
There's no need to fumble with menu settings when you want to shoot a movie – recording can be started or stopped simply by pressing the dedicated MOVIE button.
When you're shooting movies in AF mode with an E-mount lens, the camera smoothly adjusts focus and exposure in response to changes in the scene, and you can use the control wheel to instantly adjust exposure compensation on the fly. If desired, you can also preselect white balance and Creative Style settings before movie recording begins.

Although many recent video cameras incorporate high-power zoom lenses, none can match the framing flexibility and creative freedom of interchangeable lenses. With the NEX-5 and NEX-3, you get a choice of dedicated E-mount lenses for wide-angle, standard zoom, and high-power zoom shooting, optional ultra wide-angle and fisheye converters, and – via a simple mount adaptor – the full range and world-class optics of the α digital SLR lens lineup.*

The outstanding low-light movie-shooting performance of the NEX-5 and NEX-3's large, Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor is further enhanced by the Optical SteadyShot image stabilization featured on E-mount zoom lenses. In addition, the E 18?200mm F3.5?6.3 OSS zoom offers Active Mode image stabilization that even makes it possible to shoot movies while walking.

The NEX-5 and NEX-3 are equipped with built-in stereo microphones for sound quality that fully lives up to Sony's reputation for audio excellence. An optional ECM-SST1 Stereo Microphone with switchable 90°/120° directional coverage is also available, and can be attached to the Smart Accessory Terminal on the top of the camera.

The included PMB (Picture Motion Browser) software makes it easy to view and edit your movies on a VAIO or other personal computer, and burn them to Blu-ray, DVD, or CD media. Both AVCHD and MP4 file formats are supported.
